Tanzania's islands and beaches are blessed with a ray of year-round sunshine and a balmy climate of 30 degrees centigrade. The beautiful blue waters, velvety sands and flamboyant orange sunsets are the main reasons Tanzania's rise to beach fame has been so meteoric!

1. Kendwa Beach

Kendwa beach is one of the liveliest and most crowded beaches of Tanzania. Located on the northwestern coastline of Zanzibar, this beach is a party magnet and has one of the best night lives of all the beaches in Tanzania! Its waters are home to some beautiful coral reefs and exotic marine life, which makes the water activities worth the trip.

Best time to visit: June to October, December to January

2. Jambiani Beach

If you're fond of big beaches, exciting activities, fancy restaurants with delicious foods and authenticity, then Jambiani is your place to be! This old fishing village has a very laid back and cozy vibe to it, perfect for couples looking for a getaway! The broad blue lagoon offers a clear view of the incredible aquatic animals and plants. This beach tends to get crowded during the peak season.

3. Nungwi Beach

Nungwi's bright white sand bordering the gigantic Indian Ocean has warm waters throughout the years, which is great for swimming! With tons of chic restaurants and comfortable and modern hotel accommodation and lodges, this area becomes a fantastic spot for families and large groups of friends. This beach attracts a variety of travelers including culture seekers, party lovers and beach bums, so it's crowded and definitely not the beach for those after silence and peace!

4. Prison Island Beach

Named after the prison that was completed in 1894, but was merely used as quarantine center for yellow-fever victims is a great place to relax and soak in the beauty of nature. An ideal place to spot the wildlife here and there. Best for a half-day trip this island allows you to interact with the tortoise, feed and have a swim with them.

5. Misali Island Beach

Since this beach is still untapped and away from the noisy tourists, this place is the epitome of isolation and calmness! Perfect for those searching for a quiet place to unwind on their vacations – it feels almost like a private island. The serenity, combined with the beautiful coral life makes the trip worthwhile!
