Arusha is one of Tanzania's most popular cities and best known for Safaris National Parks and brilliant landscapes. So naturally, it would be a great place to do some hiking or as some like to call it a walking safari!
If you an avid hiker or just looking for some adventure, then hiking through Arusha might be just the activity for you. Whether you a local and looking for a new trail to try, or a tourist and wondering which routes would best suit your fitness level and itinerary, then we have just the guide for you.
10 Top Hiking Trails in Arusha
1. Mount Kilimanjaro
Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, is located about 100 kilometres from Arusha and offers one of the best hiking experiences. It is actually a dormant volcano that springs up to a height of 6000 m above sea level!

2. Mount Meru
Mt. Meru is the second-highest mountain in Tanzania and just like Mt. Kilimanjaro, it is also a dormant volcano. The hike to Mt. Meru starts from Arusha National Park and promises picturesque sceneries. You would need at least three days to hike over Mt. Meru, but if you don't have enough time, you could opt for a day hike in Meru National Park. One of the most popular day hikes here is the hike to Napuru waterfall, which we look at nest.

3. Napuru Waterfalls, Meru National Park
If you would like a shorter trip around Mt. Meru, then you might want to try the waterfall hike! This is a day-long hike and takes you from outside of Arusha, through several villages, to the base of Mt. Meru, where you can gaze in awe at the beauty of nature.

4. Kikuletwa Hot-Springs
Looking for a place to dip your feet in warm water and let it relax your mind? Well, these hot springs should be your next destination! Kikuletwa hot springs, also called “Maji Moto” – which means hot waters – are two hours away from Arusha by car! However, you’ll still have to hike for some distance before you reach the hot springs!

5. Arusha National Park
This wonderful National Park will let you spot numerous animals including lions, buffaloes, elephants and many more!
Other than the Mt. Meru hike in Arusha National Park, several other hiking trails start from the Arusha National Park. It takes about 4-6 hours to cover each trail and you’ll get to see lots of wildlife on your way!
6. Themi Falls Leisure Park
Themi Falls Leisure Park is located on Waterfall Road in Arusha and provides some adventurous hiking trails in Tanzania. Enjoy the scenic views that this waterfall has to offer!

7. Mount Longido
Mt. Longido is situated around 80 kilometers north of Arusha and is another popular mountain hike near Arusha. The mountain stands at 2,600 meters and the hike can take one or two days.

8. Lake Duluti
Lake Duluti is only 20 minutes away from Arusha and was formed inside a volcanic crater. Enjoy strolling along the lake and view the stunning wildlife that visits the lake in search of water!

9. Lake Manyara National Park
Lake Manyara National Park is 120 kilometers to the west of Arusha. Here, you can opt for a Treetop Walkway! Don’t forget to check out the vast population of flamingoes by the lake itself while you’re there!

10. Ngorongoro Crater
The Ngorongoro Crater Rim Walk is a hiking trail that every traveler should embark on! Located inside the greater Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the hike lasts only two hours and you get to see exotic birds, giraffe, zebras, elephants, and even large predators on your way!
Standing by the rim of the crater while watching all the animals down in the crater is a mesmerizing experience that you shouldn’t miss out on!
