Arusha is one of Tanzania's most popular cities and best known for Safaris National Parks and brilliant landscapes. So naturally, it would be a great place to do some hiking or as some like to call it a walking safari!

If you an avid hiker or just looking for some adventure, then hiking through Arusha might be just the activity for you. Whether you a local and looking for a new trail to try, or a tourist and wondering which routes would best suit your fitness level and itinerary, then we have just the guide for you.

10 Top Hiking Trails in Arusha

1. Mount Kilimanjaro

Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, is located about 100 kilometres from Arusha and offers one of the best hiking experiences. It is actually a dormant volcano that springs up to a height of 6000 m above sea level!

There are seven trekking routes available and the routes may take 7-10 days for completion. However, hiking on this mountain is particularly simple and requires no prior experience, which should come as great news for all the newbie hikers! Read more about Mount Kilimanjaro National Park here.

Mt. Meru is the second-highest mountain in Tanzania and just like Mt. Kilimanjaro, it is also a dormant volcano. The hike to Mt. Meru starts from Arusha National Park and promises picturesque sceneries. You would need at least three days to hike over Mt. Meru, but if you don't have enough time, you could opt for a day hike in Meru National Park. One of the most popular day hikes here is the hike to Napuru waterfall, which we look at nest.
