Introduction
On the first day, you will be driven from the Kilimanjaro airport to Moshi where the local guides will let you know about the important aspects of the safari. The Kilimanjaro Mountain is actually a dormant volcano with three cones. This is the real beauty of the mountain which can be seen from miles away. If you are planning on trekking then make sure that a guide accompanies you because solo trekking is not allowed by the local authorities. Just as a reference, please take note that the trekking takes about a week to complete. Full of history and culture it is a place that is worth giving a shot.
Kilimanjaro National Park is the major tourist attraction. Mount Kilimanjaro is located above the tree line. The flora and fauna of the park are awesome and one of its kind in the region. You will encounter rodents, bushbuck and red duiker. The park is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The buffaloes wandering in the wilderness are another awesome scene for which this itinerary is known. The geological formation of land and the biodiversity will definitely drive you crazy.
You will also be taken to the Chala Crater Lake that is located just beneath the Mount Kilimanjaro. The large crater is filled with water which was formed as a result of volcanic activity. The biodiversity around the lake attracts tourists from all over the world. The swimming is allowed at your own risk as there is no lifeguard available. The area is isolated in the off-season so it is advised to visit it during the Dec – June season.
The multiday tour also includes a visit to plateau between Namwai and Tarakia rivers. Here you can see the elephants roaming. The montane forests surround the plateau. The biodiversity of the forests includes blue monkeys and leopards. The other beautiful plateau that can be visited on this tour is Shira. It is one of the 7 trekking routes to Mount Kilimanjaro. The fauna of the region is very diverse, unlike flora. On this route, you will encounter predators such as lions, buffalos, and elephants. The plateau is actually a large crater with remains of an expired volcano.
