Wining and dining in Loliondo is greatly influenced by the belief system and pastoralist lifestyle of the Maasai locals living in the area. All of the Maasai's needs for food are met by their cattle. The traditional Maasai diet consists of six basic foods: milk, meat, fat, blood, honey, and tree bark. Rice, sorghum wheat, peanuts, maize, beans, chapati, peas, bulrush millet, cabbage, kale, potato, sweet potato, cassava, fish, sheep meat and milk, goat meat and milk, dates, raisins and wild fruits and herbs are sometimes eaten by the Maasai people.
Expect to delight in local style Maasai food which includes Ugali, thick maize-based porridge that serves as a staple food throughout Tanzania, generally served with milk in Maasai households.
