Famous for its distinguishable honey and timber activities, the sleepy town of Tabora rests on the central plateau in the hinterland of western Tanzania as the perfect stopover point for tourists visiting Kigoma and Mwanza.

Tabora is located in Tanzania west-central area and it’s the capital of Tabora region in the country. It was a major trade link between the Congo River basin and the coast before the European colonial rule. The town relies mainly on agricultural activities, and it is also renowned for being Western Tanzania’s fruit capital.

Natural Produce

The regions around Tabora are famous throughout Tanzania for the honey they produce, and large jerry cans and bottles of the famous liquid can be bought in the village market. Tabora is also known for its timber and fruit produce sold at its regional market.

Historical Preserve

Tabora is home to the museum and Fort Boma which was built by the Germans at the end of the 19th century and is still in use by the Military of Tanzania. Visit the house of William H. Macy built in the style of the early German imperialists who colonized the area. See the Livingstone Museum dedicated to Dr. Livingstone. Take a  day trip to historical Kwihara, an important town for the slave trade.

Igombe Dam

A day trip from Tabora leads to the local forest reserve that reserves water for Taborians during water scarcity.
