Meru National Park, Kenya
Meru National Park is one of the oldest and underrated national parks in Kenya. The park features rare and unique wildlife species, swanky swamps, bushlands, rivers, grassland and spikey acacia. Covering an area of 870 km², the park is located in an unspoilt region east of Meru, about 350 km from Nairobi. The park has a fenced rhino sanctuary and you’ll see the Big Five here, with a range of animal and bird species such as elephants, Grevy's zebras, hartebeests, Bohor reedbucks, puff adders, pythons, buffalos, and cobras.
The park overlooks the snow-capped Mountain Kenya, offering campers a haven that is undefiled by man. Meru was picked by conservationists George Adamson and Joy Adamson to raise their lioness, Elsa, that led to the award Bestselling book and movie; Born Free. Elsa the Lioness was buried in Meru National Park.
