Wildlife Viewing:
The Park is home to a variety of small antelope, duiker, forest monkeys, hyena, and leopard. On the lower slopes of Mount Elgon, elephants and buffalo can be found.
Birdlife:
At least 300 birds and 144 bird species make their home in Mount Elgon National Park. They include Golden-Winged and Tacazze sunbirds, Ross's and Hartlaub's Turacos, Black and White Casqued and Crowned Hornbills, the endangered Lammergeier, Jackson’s francolin and the eastern Bronze-naped pigeon.
Diverse Vegetation:
Ascending Mt. Elgon's enchanting slopes is a dense montane forest and mixed bamboo belts. Mount Elgon is known for its four distinct vegetation zones. A lush montane forest, mixed bamboo and Podocarpus Zone, heath zone as well as the moorland zone each dotted with biodiverse plant species.
Ancient Lava Caves:
Kitum, Making’eny, Chepnyalil, Ngwarisha and many other caves some of which are outside protected areas dots Mt. Elgon. The Kitum cave is regularly visited by herds of elephants, bushbuck, red and grey duikers as well as buffaloes in search of salts.
Spectacular Waterfalls:
Within a 1.5km from Kitum at the mouth of Making’eny Cave is a spectacular waterfall. Sipi falls is a panoramic view of the areas’ escarpments, gorges, mesas, and rivers.
Beautiful scenery:
This is a great attraction for mountain climbers on this often-neglected and relatively undemanding mountain.
