Distance and Flight Time
Departing Ukunda Diani Airport you will need to either travel to one of the popular hub airports Mombasa or Dar es Salaam and then catch a connecting flight from there to Pemba Island. Your flight can take anywhere between 2 - 3 hours to get to Pemba Island.
If you prefer to get a better lay of the land you can also travel by ferry 86 km off the coast route and enjoy some of the greatest ocean and island views in the world.

As you leave the coast you will then need to cross the Zanzibar channel, your pilot will have the nose of the plane pointed slightly south of east, headed for Pemba’s capital Chake-Chake and it’s close to the airport of Wawe, Karume or Pemba - one place, many names.
This is a flight of colours, textures, sea, sky, beach, coral, rock and green hills. Take one deep breath, close your eyes and imagine the artist’s palette and colour choices. Your camera should be clicking away.
Your approach to the airfield usually requires a left-hand turn line up, and then you will soon be landing on the Island of Pemba.
