Not to Miss During Flights
Taking off usually in a southerly direction, once airborne the beauty of this route begins to unfold. Your pilot will turn the nose of the plane through almost 180 degrees and point north-northwest for Tanga, your destination.
The views are spectacular: Zanzibar Town and its historic Stone Town centre, the island spread out to the east, and the Zanzibar channel to the west. 40km into the flight you’ll see the island of Timbatu on the right as the northern tip of Zanzibar (real name Unguja) Island is clearly seen. Down below you’ll see the ancient, time-tested dhows of the fishermen and merchants plying their trade.
As the plane approaches the Tanzanian coastline, the ancient town of Pangani can be seen. The flight path crosses the coast a little south of the inshore island of Karange, 20 km (12 miles) short of Tanga. At this stage, you can see the foothills of the East Usambara Mountains.

Tanga Airport is one of the smaller airports in the country and only services a small amount of regional and local flights per day. The airport lies less than 3km (1.9 miles) west of the city itself.
